Showcasing and commissioning compositions from contemporary Slovenian composers, Festival Maribor has firmly established itself as a pivotal platform for developing and promoting Slovenian music. This year, it features more prominently than ever, magnified by the esteemed presence of Ensemble Modern, a globally recognized authority in contemporary music. The programme, featuring works of Vinko Globokar, Petra Strahovnik, Matej Bonin, Nina Šenk, and Vito Žuraj, delves into the captivating and ever-evolving interplay between words and music. With the distinguished poets Ana Pepelnik and Aleš Šteger personally presenting their verses, the festival dives even deeper into this connection, capturing and mirroring the world around us.
Furthering Festival Maribor’s role as patron and promotor of contemporary Slovenian talent, we proudly present the world premiere of the musical play Zvezda in Srce (The Star and the Heart), commissioned by the festival. Composed by Nana Forte and Jure Ivanušič, the musical play for children contains all the elements of a musical with masterful rhyming verses by the renowned Slovenian poet Milan Jesih. Presenting its witty characters through a variety of musical styles and genres, it offers a precious opportunity for young listeners to discover and explore the vast and versatile landscapes of music and expand their classical music horizons.
